SpamAssassin auto-whitelist

Hmm - this explains why add-addr-to-whitelist hasn't been working so well for me in SpamAssassin. Docs at the website say:

"Technically, you can use spamassassin --add-addr-to-whitelist, but don't. The AutoWhitelist is designed as a score averaging system, not as a whitelisting system. If you want to manually whitelist, you should use the directions from the previous section."

Previous section:
"To manually whitelist a particular address... edit your local user prefs file ~/.spamassassin/user_prefs"

Should make email life easier...

CEOs on telecom service

SBC CEO Edward E. Whitacre Jr. seems to think it's not enough for consumers to pay him for Internet access - the people we connect to should pay too:

"They don't have any fiber out there. They don't have any wires. They don't have anything... They use my lines for free -- and that's bull. For a Google (GOOG ) or a Yahoo! (YHOO ) or a Vonage or anybody to expect to use these pipes for free is nuts!"

Verizon CEO Ivan Seidenberg on the unreasonable demands of customers who want their cell phones to work at home, and who want localized maps of where service isn't available:
"Why in the world would you think your (cell) phone would work in your house? The customer has come to expect so much. They want it to work in the elevator; they want it to work in the basement."

Handguns Banned in San Francisco. Wow.

Wow - Proposition H, banning the purchase or ownership of handguns in the city of San Francisco, has passed.
I hadn't been paying much attention to the various propositions in the city, as I was working on EIRS to track election-related problems; I voted against the gun ban, because I really hadn't had time to think about it, and might've voted against it anyway, as I'd prefer a good gun licensing/registration program to outlawing them outright.
But I can't say I'm unhappy that it passed.

Halloween in the Castro

Once again, around the end of October, I'm getting a lot of hits on my Halloween in the Castro pictures. Most people are hitting the 2003 pics; hopefully they won't miss the 2004 ones.
Strangely enough, I'm now the number 3 hit on Google for "castro halloween" (down from #2 a week ago); but nowhere near the top for "http://www.google.com/search?q=halloween+castro">halloween castro." (Well, my 2004 pics show up as #40 for that latter search.)

About this site

This is the personal web site for Edward (Ed) Piou. Consisting mainly of a blog (operational since 1999) and various photos.

Some online projects I'm working on

eppi.com : my one-man web development corp. (I'm for hire)
voteprotect.org : I'm helping build the Election Incident Reporting System (EIRS), and we could really use some volunteer sysadmins and PHP programmers interested in safeguarding democracy...
