Menage a Trois...

... wine. For those special parties.
(It's actually pretty good. Then again, I also liked Howling Monkey beer.)
(And did you know you can order wine with your own label on it?)

Stereotypes

Nice, small, online photography trick.

Mitochondrial Madness

AskMeFi: "I just received my results from the Genographic Project and they are confusing. Can someone explain my mitochondrial DNA to me? ... They said that I am part of group L1... L1 is not found outside of Africa... All existing groups descend from L1.

"First off, I am not African at all..."

Many Blog and Picture links regarding the London Bombing today

BoingBoing has a collection of links to group blogs and amateur picture sets related to the bombing in London today. I recall hearing after the September 2001 attacks on New York and DC that cops were keeping citizens from photographing what was happening; I don't know if it's the passage of 3 years filled with techno-photo-gadgetry-sharing, or a difference in temperament between New York and London, or that the death toll was so much higher in September 2001 that is making this more "OK" with the people on the ground.
I first heard about the bombing at about 3am Pacific time, through a then-sparse thread on Metafilter. The mainstream online news sources had nothing; I turned on KALW, since they run BBC news all night, and listened to their live coverage for a little while before going to sleep.

House of Cosbys

Dancing Cosby Very funny animated shorts - a series called "House of Cosbys." Discontinued because of threats from Bill Cosby's lawyers, but you can see 4 episodes.

Small Political Groups, Big Political Effects

San Francisco Chronicle profiles the couple behind DowningStreetMemo.com.
The Civic Action Network - "an organization whose goal is to allow small groups of activists to share ideas and collaborate." (The basic idea: form small, temporary teams with other activists to work on concrete, achievable political goals. With amusing video explanation.)
MoveOn PAC Operation Democracy - neighborhood action teams working on progressive issues. (Looks like they mainly work on issues coordinated by MoveOn PAC, but I don't know...)

Justice Sandra Day O'Connor Retires From Supreme Court; MoveOn PAC Petition

Justice Sandra Day O'Connor has announced her retirement from the Supreme Court.
MoveOn PAC wants 250,000 people to sign their petition to make sure the next Supreme Court Justice is a moderate and qualified individual:

"The Senate must stand up to President Bush and demand a Supreme Court nominee who will protect the rights and freedoms of the American people."

Daily Kos has a bunch of things you can do to help make this turn out alright.
(And, just 2 days ago, Senate Minority Leader Reid put forth the names of 4 Republicans he'd like George Bush to nominate to the Supreme Court.)
