Anti-War Activists Having Trouble Getting on Flights

Apparently numerous anti-war activists are on a governmental "no-fly" list used by airlines to screen out potential threats, but no government agency claims responsibility for the list.

Justice Scalia on the Divine Right of Government

From a NY Times article: "The reaction of people of faith to this tendency of democracy to obscure the divine authority behind government should not be resignation to it, but the resolution to combat it as effectively as possible."

(We fought the Revolutionary War to live away from thinking like this.)

Al Gore on the Broken Promises of BushCheney

Gore delivers a short, and sweet, critique of what Bush and his buddies have done to screw over "the people" (i.e., you and me).

MapQuest Backlash

A bunch of people bitch about MapQuest directions getting them lost or making them late. A bug in MapQuest contributed to me and my girlfriend getting lost up in Marin this past weekend...

Hate Crime Victims, Targeted Due to Sept. 11th, Not Getting Much

Washington Post article on Arab Americans, and those who look similar, being targeted for more hate crimes in the wake of the terrorist attacks on New York and DC; and their surviving families not getting the same benefits - monetary help, counseling, etc. - that families of those who died in the crashes got.

The Media Immediately After the Sept. 11 2001 Attack

From an old issue of Phil Agre's RRE: a timeline of statements from government officials, and others, on September 11, 2002. Not very complimentary of the U.S. government's public response to the attack. (Arafat, the Taliban, and an airport security official all gave lengthy public statements before any government officials did.)

Slashback

Good Slashback at Slashdot, dealing with Nigerian email scams and the Farscape cancellation.

Left Behind

Never read them, but the Left Behind books have caught my eye in airport bookstores.

NASA mind-reading tech

I heard somewhere that the issue/story is overblown and possibly inaccurate, but EPIC has FOIA'd documents dealing with NASA's desire to implement and deploy "mind-reading" technology at airports.

Farscape Cancelled

Farscape is gone. Maybe a few new episodes in January, but the SciFi Channel isn't paying for any more to be made.

Would be nice if they'd at least create a series finale.

How to Survive White Collar Prison

Hmmm - a guy sent to prison for fraud for filing a fake insurance claim gets interviewed regarding what to expect in low-security prisons.

About this site

This is the personal web site for Edward (Ed) Piou. Consisting mainly of a blog (operational since 1999) and various photos.

Some online projects I'm working on

eppi.com : my one-man web development corp. (I'm for hire)
voteprotect.org : I'm helping build the Election Incident Reporting System (EIRS), and we could really use some volunteer sysadmins and PHP programmers interested in safeguarding democracy...
