Earth First! Activists Win Against FBI

An Oakland jury has awarded $4.4 million to Darryl Cherney and the estate of Judi Bari; the two Earth Firsters were injured in 1990 when a bomb went off in their car, and newspapers at the time generally reported that investigators believed it was their own bomb. The jury determined that members of the Oakland police force and FBI violated the pair's First and Fourth Amendment rights.

SFBG has a good article detailing some of the revelations from the trial regarding police and FBI misconduct. And the Judi Bari website has a lot of background information from the plaintiffs' point of view.

voteprotect.org : I'm helping build the Election Incident Reporting System (EIRS), and we could really use some volunteer sysadmins and PHP programmers interested in safeguarding democracy...
