Major standardized test company screws up

Why full disclosure for corporations (and the software and processes they use) would be good: standardized test company CTB, a subsidiary of McGraw-Hill, misreported scores for students who took its test in 6 states, which resulted in good administrators and teachers being fired, students who were doing fine being forced to go to summer school, and good schools being labeled inadequate.

Beefy fries at McDonald's

Why full disclosure for corporations would be good: McDonald's admits it's been using beef flavoring in its fries for the past 11 years, though its ad campaigns implied that no animal products were used in its fries. Given the secrecy around their recipes, I expect that any front-line McDonald's employee would've been as clueless about this as the public. They're getting sued for misleading customers.

I used to work with him, 6 years ago, at The Chronicle of Higher Ed; he was one of the first reporters to do a good job of covering the Internet. These days, he seems to be covering consumer technology - explaining what's good and bad about computers and the Net, and what to do with them, for average consumers.
